EU Regulations on Cookies

PredictZ is operated from the United Kingdom, and therefore we have to comply with UK and European Union (EU) laws. All websites operated in the EU have to comply with these laws to protect your privacy.

There are several laws and directives that we abide by with regards to privacy and cookies. We want to make sure that as a user of our website you are fully aware of the laws that protect you as a user.

The following background gives you an overview of the legal framework that is in place for all websites operated in the European Union. This background is taken from the United Kingom Information Commissioner's Office (http://www.ico.gov.uk/). The ICO have provided updated guidance on the latest legal framework as of May 2012 (http://www.ico.gov.uk/news/blog/2012/updated-ico-advice-guidance-e-privacy-directive-eu-cookie-law.aspx). The legal history below has led to current guidance:

  • The Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (the Regulations) cover the use of cookies and similar technologies for storing information, and accessing information stored, on a user's equipment such as their computer or mobile.
  • The 2003 Regulations implemented a European Directive - 2002/58/EC
  • In 2009 this Directive was amended by Directive 2009/136/EC.
  • This included a change to Article 5(3) of the E-Privacy Directive requiring consent for storage or access to information stored on a subscriber or users terminal equipment – in other words a requirement to obtain consent for cookies and similar technologies.
  • Governments in Europe had until 25 May 2011 to implement these changes into their own law. The UK introduced the amendments on 25 May 2011 through The Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) (Amendment) Regulations 2011.

How PredictZ uses Cookies

A cookie is a small text file which is placed on your computer's hard drive when you visit websites.

Almost all websites use cookies. Cookies are used to help analyse web traffic, store your preferences (for example you might specify you want a list of information always sorted alphabetically), and track the path of your visit to a website from page to page to assist in cacheing and performance when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow websites to respond to you as an individual. The web site can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by remembering information about your preferences.

PredictZ uses cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyse data about our traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. We use this information for statistical analysis purposes, in particular Google Analytics.

Overall, cookies help us provide you with a better website, by enabling us to see which pages you find useful and which you do not. A cookie in no way gives us access to your computer or any specific and personal information about you, other than the data you choose to share with us.

Your Agreement to Allow PredictZ to Set Cookies

You have probably been directed to this page from our notification message at the top of the PredictZ website, otherwise you might have arrived at this page from a search engine query.

We are required by the above laws and directives to inform you that PredictZ uses cookies and we are required to gain your consent to allow us to place cookies on your device. This is why we have explicitly placed a message about the use of cookies on our website pages to direct you to this page to make you fully aware of how our website operates.

To quote the United Kingdom ICO Guidance (see http://www.ico.gov.uk/):
"Those setting cookies must:

  • tell people that the cookies are there,
  • explain what the cookies are doing, and
  • obtain their consent to store a cookie on their device."

The changes we have put in place at PredictZ.com endeavour to comply with all of these guidance points and all guidance provided by the United Kingdom Information Commissioner's Office. If you feel that PredictZ.com does not comply with this guidance then please contact us at legal@PredictZ.com and we will listen to and address any concerns.

PredictZ is open and honest about all cookies that are set by our website. We have therefore explained below the types of cookie set, and the names of cookies themselves and what their purpose is.

With regards to your consent for us to store cookies on your device, we have set out a lot of information on this page to guide you through what cookies are, how they are used, and what they are used for. We have provided you as a user with background on the law and links to resources where you can find out more about the law regarding your privacy.

We have introduced an alert notice on our website pages that clearly informs all users that cookies are set by our website, and by continuing to use our website you therefore provide us consent to use cookies.

If you wish that this alert notice is no longer shown, then please click the accept button and it will not display. We will not display the alert notice by means of setting a cookie on your device that tells us not to show the alert again (we have no other practical way of identifying your preference to not show the alert than setting a cookie). If you happen to clear your cookies, or have software installed that clears your cookies and browsing history for you, then this alert will continue to display.

If you do not wish to have PredictZ or cookies associated with our website set on your device then you can choose to not use our website.

If you wish to use our website and block any cookies that are set by ourselves or our advertisers, then you can do this by following the instructions below to configure your browser or device's software to block cookies. As you will probably be aware, people can now use the Internet by using a multitude of devices such as computers, phones, televisions, tablets, and other devices, and each of these devices may use different software and Internet browsers. We have therefore provided the link below that explains in detail how to manage cookies through most of the popular Internet browser software.

We must stress however that cookies set by PredictZ are not malicious, they do not harm your computer or allow us to access other files on your computer, or collect any information that is private and personal to you as an individual.

Instead, PredictZ sets cookies that help improve your experience on our website. For example, we use cookies to track our visitor statistics to see which pages are most popular, or which pages need improving. We use cookies to store from which region and country you are browsing our website from so that we can tailor the information we display to you.

What to do if you do not want a website to place cookies on your device

You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser settings to decline cookies if you prefer. This may prevent you from taking full advantage of certain websites, including PredictZ.com. If you would like to learn more about how to manage the acceptance of cookies on your own browser or device, please visit http://www.aboutcookies.org/default.aspx
