Correct Score Tips

Every prediction we make at PredictZ is fundamentally a correct score tip. Our algorithms and our team's analysis doesn't fall short and predict just both teams to score, or over'under, but instead our starting point is to predict the score of the game.

Implicit in this prediction is then whether both teams will score and whether there will be over or under 2.5 goals. We believe this is the correct way of predicting football games, because you can't really predict the BTTS and Over'Under market unless you've determined what you think the score might be.

Other tipsters might shy away from score predictions for a number of reasons. Primarily, exact score tips don't win that often - they're tough to predict, and many tipsters don't want to be THAT transparent in their tipping.

As you can see above, we predict correct scores, but we also back up those tips with key statistics. If you prefer BTTS or Over 2.5 goals tips, then we've got that too as a filter on our predictions today page.

How To Bet On Correct Scores

We've set out some discussion and analysis below to kick off some thoughts around correct score betting. In general correct scores are commonly seen as a single bet selection, commonly because hitting a correct score winner is tough.

Punters seeking to bet small but on large combined odds, might prefer to put two correct scores into a correct score double, as described below. However, your chances of hitting a correct score double across any two games are generally 1 in 50 or higher.

Correct score betting can also be done through permutation bets such as Lucky 15. A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 bets (4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and 1 four-fold), therefore some punters like to put together four correct score selections into a Lucky 15 because if just one of those correct scores lands then the Lucky 15 bet will at least return some winnings. If two land, then you've got 2 single winners and one correct score double of course, and if 3 or 4 come in then this is certainly a big winning bet from what can be a small stake. Some bookmakers also offer double odds on one winner in a Lucky 15 as a bonus.

Another way of looking at correct score betting is that if you're consistently betting on correct scores at odds of 10.00, you only need to win one in ten games to break even. Two winners in ten games and you've made a decent profit. With correct score betting you will almost certainly have more losers than winners, but the overall return should always be considered as a measure of success or failure.

Correct Score Probability

The odds on each correct score are generally set by the bookmaker according to the chance of that scoreline happening. Sounds obvious, but probability is an important consideration to keep in mind when looking at betting on correct scores.

Take a look at any bookmaker and see which scores are the lowest priced selections in the correct score market, and these will almost always be 1-0 to the favourites in each game, or 0-0 and 1-1. This is because these scorelines are more likely to happen. To state the obvious, every football game starts 0-0, right? and the vast majority of football games, by probability have at least 1 goal, so it makes sense for a bookmaker to price the lower number of goals scorelines accordingly as favourites.

As a general rule of thumb, you can expect odds of approximately 7.00 (6/1) on a 1-0 result to the favourite in a game, a similar price on the 1-1 result (if not slightly lower), and perhaps approximately 8.00 (7/1) on the 0-0 result. Of course, this varies by game and league.

It's also important to consider that as a general rule there are approximately, on average, 2.5 combined goals in an average football game. This is why bookmakers use the under/over 2.5 goals market - because 2.5 goals represents the approximate number of goals whereby 50% of games will be lower than 2.5 and 50% will be higher. With this in mind, some punters also look for value in correct score results such as 2-1, where one team might be favourite to win in a game, but both teams to score is also determined likely. 2-1 results generally offer odds of 9.00 (8/1) or 10.00 (9/1).

What Is A Correct Score Double?

A correct score double is a bet on two correct scores in two separate games. For your bet to win you must get both correct scores right, and your odds on a correct score double are therefore the first correct score game odds multiplied by the second correct score game odds.

Let's look at an example - you place a correct score double bet on Manchester United to beat Arsenal 2-1 (at odds of 9.00), and Chelsea to beat Spurs 2-1 (at odds of 10.00). The odds on your correct score double are therefore 9.00 x 10.00, so 90.00. As you can see, the potential returns on a correct score double are large, but equally the chances of landing two exact correct scores are slim. You don't win anything for one correct score winner in a correct score double, although there are other permutations and bets you can do to cover one winner, if you wished to do that.

While we're on the subject, let's look at the chances of winning one of those jackpot games like Super 6, the 6 Score Challenge, Soccer 6, Pick 6 - where a bookmaker asks you to predict the correct scores of 6 games.

For simplicity let's assume the correct score odds across the 6 games average 10.00 per correct score. In real terms, the odds on 6 correct score winners, each at odds of 10.00 would therefore be - 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10, or approximately 1 million to 1! As you can see, your chances of winning these jackpot games are VERY slim. However, these games are often free to enter, and people DO win sometimes due to the sheer number of people who enter the game each week (and the fact that some weeks the scores for the 6 selected games can sometimes turn out to be quite predictable, by chance).

What Are The Most Common Correct Scores?

It is widely accepted that 1-0, 1-1 and 0-1 are the most common full-time scores in football games. The 0-0 result is also high up that list, with approximately 8% of all games ending goalless.

Our friends at WinDrawWin have a running analysis of the most popular correct scores by each football league, as well as analysis for all correct scores from all of the biggest worldwide football leagues. Their analysis supports the statistics that relatively lower scoring games are the most common full-time results.

The real learning point here though is that outside of any result between 0-0 up to 2-1 to either team, scores greater than this range are generally speaking, less common.

It is important to remember this when betting on correct scores because the mind of a bettor tends to want to side with big scorelines. Punters like bets on 3-2 results or big 3-3 draws - perhaps it's the will to see an exciting game, or a bet land at larger odds. These scores might offer big odds, but they don't happen very often.

If you're looking for consistency then it might be best to stick to the most common full-time scores, but if you're looking for a big odds, outside or speculative bets, or you have analysis to back up your theory that a game might be a big 3-3 result, then these do happen, but just not as often.
